Work introduction
Chiahu Lee reimagines J.S. Bach's "15 two-part inventions" in her work "(ré)inventions à deux pianos". This complete recomposition for two pianos transforms Bach’s classical pieces into a fusion of pop, minimalism, and smooth jazz, inspired by the French title of Bach's work, 'inventions à deux voix'. Chia-Chia's reinterpretation is a personal and innovative take, blending her lifelong love for Baroque music and unfulfilled jazz aspirations with modern electronic music influences. The music is particularly notable for its textured soundscapes created through layered sound colours and effects, aiming to appeal to both connoisseurs and casual listeners alike. Chiahu also challenges herself to explore the piano’s full range, using its registers to playfully experiment with Bach’s polyphony.
