Our Artistic Committee

Your sheet music will be evaluated by our Artistic Committee according to the criteria of our Quality Guidelines before it is accepted into the Universal Edition catalogue. By submitting your sheet music for evaluation, you can benefit from decades of experience in music notation at the highest level. We are pleased to introduce you to some of the renowned experts on our Artistic Committee who have the honourable task of reviewing your submission.

Astrid Koblanck

Astrid Koblanck is a trained lawyer and has many years of training in piano and organ. After eight years as assistant to the managing director of the collecting society Literar-Mechana, she began her work at Universal Edition as assistant to the board of directors in 1996. Here she can now combine her background in law with her great passion for contemporary music. Since 2010, she has also been on the board of directors of the collecting society AKM. She is also very committed to representing the interests of theatre and music publishers in Austria in their respective associations. scodo is a project close to her heart in order to open up the possibility for many talented and interesting composers worldwide to find a forward-looking partner in Universal Edition. Since 2004 she is a member of the Universal Edition’s board of directors.

Sarah Laila Standke

Sarah Laila Standke holds a doctorate in musicology and also studied cultural management, art history and music education with a focus on piano. After years in orchestra management and as composer manager at an artists' agency, she has been working as promotion manager at Universal Edition since 2012. Here she is the contact person for UE's contemporary composers and represents the publisher's catalogue to customers on the market. Since 2023 she is the Head of Promotion and Marketing at Universal Edition.

Martina Kalser-Gruber

Martina Kalser-Gruber studied musicology, theatre, film and media studies at the University of Vienna and completed her studies with a dissertation on the development of the German-language musical. She gained her first professional experience in the music editorial department of the ORF-Landesstudio of Lower Austria and in the manager's offices of the Grafenegg Music Festival and the Lower Austrian Tonkünstler Orchestra respectively. Between 2014 and 2022, she was a research assistant at the Department of Art and Cultural Studies at Danube University Krems. Most recently, she was responsible for the music estates of composers such as Friedrich Cerha and HK Gruber as well as the music publisher Alfred Schlee at the Archives of Contemporary Arts. Since the summer semester of 2022, she has held a lectureship at the Institute for Musicology at the University of Vienna. As of April 2022 she has been working as a promotion manager for Universal Edition, and she has been supporting the Artistic Committee since May 2022.

Christina Meglitsch-Kopacek

Christina Meglitsch-Kopacek holds a doctorate in musicology and German studies and studied piano and instrumental pedagogy at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. She headed the artistic manager's office of the Klangraum Krems Minoritenkirche and the Glatt und Verkehrt Festival before becoming an editor for pedagogical editions at Universal Edition in 2011. Since 2019, she has been responsible for product development at Universal Edition. Her contribution to the Artistic Committee focuses on pedagogical works.

The UE editorial team

In addition to content evaluation, each submission is also subjected to a rigorous technical and formal review. This is carried out by our renowned editorial team according to our well-founded Quality Guidelines – every page of music submitted must comply with these guidelines in order for our editors to give the green light and for the submitters to be allowed to use scodo. Our editorial team draws on decades of experience in the field of music notation and consists of members who are also composers themselves. In addition to the initial review and acceptance of composers into the UE catalogue, the editorial team is also responsible for the ongoing evaluation and review of works published via scodo at UE.
