Beat Furrer celebrates his 70th birthday on 6 December. The composer and conductor, who was born in Schaffhausen and has lived in Vienna since 1975, has made significant contributions to contemporary music with works such as the opera Die Blinden (1989), Nuun (1995) for 2 pianos and ensemble, and the chamber music work Retour an Dich (1986). His work is characterised by an innovative tonal language and the exploration of new forms of musical expression.
