
Luis Menacho, born in 1973 in La Plata, Argentina, is a distinguished composer, pianist, musical director, and researcher. He studied piano under Haydée Schvartz and completed postgraduate studies with Gerardo Gandini on a scholarship from Editorial Melos. Currently, he teaches harmony, counterpoint, musical morphology, and composition at the Faculty of Arts of the National University of La Plata (FDA, UNLP).
Menacho has composed a diverse array of works for various vocal and instrumental ensembles, electronics, video art, opera, and dance. His compositions have been performed both in Argentina and internationally at festivals and concerts across Europe, the USA, and China by esteemed performers such as the Sinopia Quartet, Beth Griffith, and the Thelema Trio.
In 2019, he composed "Bíos" on commission from the Compañia oblicua for its 15th anniversary. This piece is based on the concept of the chamber music duo, exploring music as a phenomenon of social creation. It premiered on June 28, 2019, at the Centro Cultural Kirchner (CCK) in Buenos Aires.
In 2022, Menacho composed and directed "Antelia. A Treatise on Light and Resonance," an interdisciplinary project that integrates music, texts, and light installations. This work was realized with support from the Fondo Nacional de las Artes and Ibermúsicas.
Beyond his compositional endeavors, he founded the platform MICRO [forum], through which he organized the itinerant Festival Micro [forum] in 2022 and the First Conference on Musical Aesthetics at the FDA, UNLP, in 2023. His research focuses on the intersection of art and psychoanalysis, particularly examining experimental composition through the lens of Jacques Lacan's theories.
Luis Menacho stands as a prominent figure in Argentina's contemporary music scene, with his works and projects garnering recognition both nationally and internationally.
