Work introduction

The children's version of L’elisir d’amore is a version of Gaetano Donizetti's popular opera without a break and in one act, with a duration of about 70 minutes. The version is limited to a cast of 5 soloists without choir and one actor.

In terms of content, particular importance was attached to a clear dramaturgy and child-friendly comprehensibility of the plot.

Musically, all the essential melodies and components remained intact despite numerous inconspicuously designed cuts and strokes. This short version of the opera is compact and varied, entertaining, surprisingly organic and offers a complete impression of the work.

The instrumentation follows the original in every detail and offers here and there points and colours, which in the scaled-down orchestral instrumentation represent an alternative to the romantic style of the large original score. This makes the setting very suitable for young singers.
