Work introduction
This short work for solo clarinet is a kind of prelude that suggests both contemplation and playful innocence, trying to achieve the spirit of a Japanese haiku: concentration, refinement and beauty.
The idea of blurring boundaries and exploring ambiguity has been important as a compositional point of departure. In this sense, a virtual recreation of space through echoes and delays is a means of achieving an imaginary polyphony from a monodic instrument. We could say the same regarding timbre and harmony –at the end of the piece- or melody and texture –when the clarinet plays quick notes in the lower range evoking a gentle gust of wind. The main goal, however, is the achievement of a mind state that creates images and feelings in the listener through music which suggests, rather than affirms.
The piece was premiered by Víctor de la Rosa in Fundació Tàpies (Barcelona), and it has obtained the Prize “Fac quod hagis” 2014 from Casa Museo de los Quehaceres (Segovia).
