Work introduction
The piece, with a total duration of 13 minutes, is an evocation of the beauties of the ocean, both above and below the water, through 10 parts that follow one another naturally.
It is not descriptive music, strictly speaking, but rather poetic evocations, impressions, meditations...
The unity of the whole is given by an ample and peaceful tempo throughout the piece and a binary mode, both being the representation of the regular and hypnotic rhythm generated by the surf.
Moreover, the homogeneity of the work, apart from the omnipresence of the harp, symbol of the liquid element, is due to the presence of numerous counterpoints, imitations and canons in the different parts.
The rather rich sound texture of the whole is created by the superposition of numerous musical elements (repetitive cells, themes), often of simple construction, but which should be well balanced.
