Work introduction
Patagonia is a sparsely populated region located at the southern end of South America, shared by Argentina and Chile. The region comprises the southern section of the Andes mountains as well as the deserts, steppes and grasslands east of this southern portion of the Andes.
Patagonia is a Divertimento for Percussion Quintet structured in ternary form. In the composition musical influences from Argentine Tango and Caribbean habanera can be heard, followed by a middle section inspired by the rhythmic and melodic of the Chilean dance Cueca.
This piece was written 2021 for OPERcussion (Bayerische Staatsoper).
