Description
This work was born as a comission from the Festival de Música Contemporánea de Tres Cantos (Madrid). From the very first moment I decided to write a set of pieces for solo cello: a pleasant challenge! This instrument has a special meaning to me, because my wife Olga is a cellist, and because we find huge musical examples in the history of cello literature –from Bach, to present days (Harvey, Saariaho...).
Every musical haiku is based on a Japanese poem: wind, butterflies, bell sounds or night misteries are the main actors. I have been trying to create a very subtle composition, full of evocative images and feelings and, above all, trying to write on the score only the essence.
The work was premiered by Guillermo Pastrana in Tres Cantos (Madrid) in October 14th 2016. This composition is dedicated to him.

Guillermo Pastrana also played the work with the cello Stradivarius 1700 from the Patrimonio Nacional collection, in March 29th and 30th 2017, in the Palacio Real (Madrid).
