Work introduction
A Day In Paris was composed and complete on 9th September 2010. The tune popped into my head out of the blue, and I decided to write it for cello choir, as I’ve always wanted to compose something for this formation. This piece is about a couple strolling along the streets of Paris, and the sights they see along the way, such as a clown juggling in the minor section. The main theme and it’s harmonization represents the accordions commonly heard in France.
What is necessary to perform this work?
The full score is written in the format of a cello quartet, with each part shared equally between 3 cellos.
When there is a chord with 3 notes, for example in Cello I part, then Cello Ia will play the top note, Cello Ib the middle note, and Cello Ic the bottom note.
When there is an interval of 2 notes, then Cello Ia and Ib will play the upper note, and Cello Ic the lower note.
